We all reflect on the past, deal with the present, and think about the future. The % allotted is not consistent, but there usually is a pattern that can fluctuate depending on the circumstances.
Memories are a mix of good & bad and we think back for various reasons.
The past is basically reflection. Regrets and “pats on the back” are noted.
When focusing on the present, our attentiveness is enhanced which could allow us to avoid getting into a car accident or saying something stupid. It also guides our immediate decisions.
Thinking about the future is normal as we desire and need to plan our moves. Some are checker moves; others are chess moves.
Entrepreneurs will typically have their minds concentrated more on the future than others as their ventures require this type of thinking. Ben Franklin’s quote “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail” applies to these forward thinkers.
The secret is that having a plan is what’s important, not what’s in it.
