“Oh the sweet smell of success”
Looking back…
I built a big f***ing restaurant and bar in an old bottling plant in 1981 and it’s still there operating as Vons Steak House & Oyster Bar. I added a bistro on the second floor later.
Some new things
Our house wine was Mondavi from California and that was a first. At that time, house wines were from either Italy or France.
The premises was wheelchair accessible for the most part.
The bistro served fresh pasta made on site and had a CO2 wine bottle system. These were early innovations for the foodservice industry.
My brother and I created the board game – Duck Soup…The Restaurant Game. This was after I lost the restaurant through bankruptcy. Hopefully, it will become an online game.
Pride
I can wrap up my best night as a restaurateur with this particular Friday. If only…
All of my ventures have been of a high standard, and I’m proud of them to this day.
