“You’re not the boss of me now, You’re not the boss of me now, You’re not the boss of me now”
Who wants to be his own boss? Well, I would assume just about everyone, even the ones that are not risk-takers.
If I was the boss…
Do you like being told what to do? Do you disagree with management decisions? Do you like to control your own destiny? Could you do it better? Could you be the captain of your own ship?
Many would like to think so. Admittedly, most people still have some form of a boss. Children have parents and teachers. Teachers have principals. Husbands have wives?
And at work, unless you’re the CEO (even they have to answer to the board), there is a boss above you. Entrepreneurs use this burning desire to drive them for independence. Even then, entrepreneurs have a landlord and investors to keep at bay while establishing their business. But they are still the boss.
There is a price
With this freedom comes great responsibility though. You employ staff that count on you for their living wage. It’s lonely at the top and no matter what, you’re going to piss someone off. A disagreement with staff or an investor. You will have to fire someone at some point in time or part ways with a partner. Your decisions will affect many.
You’re responsible for all the bills, and don’t forget, you get paid last.
